Don't you think the terraforming ("building/destroying land") could be used in bad ways, such as removing land masses directly under the feet of players so that they would fall down into the water or isolate them from other players in fights? When you make a map and a house and you're finished with it, will it be "locked" so that we don't have players abusing this system in ways I described above, or simply create "unrealistic" enviroments? I understand this game is supposed to be very free, dynamic. But this is much like the deal with names mentioned in the FAQ (voting against users with "wrong" names, names like "PimpMaster69", you get it. To keep it "realistic"). This might be fully clear for other people, but I'm not sure I've understood it all. You FIRST create a map and then you submit it, and when it finally appears in game you cannot terraform it anymore? In game you can go into some kind of "construction mode" in which you can construct your own building and easily remove it. And other players would have to work harder in order to destroy another persons building.. because a person can't simply destroy any building just like that, that would be unrealistic.

you would need the materials, and getting rid of a building shouldn't be easy... it should be d**n hard... also, maybe players or beasts... maybe a group of sentient trolls start a demolitions business where if you don't like your house you can't just start over you have to clear it first...
but yeah, building destruction should be fun... not easy click of the button

It sounds not quite like each player will dynamically submit a plot of land... more like, the land will be mostly locked, and then it is up to the character to edit it. I mean, one guy and a shovel couldn't pull the foundation out from under a house just because he wanted to bring it down. Setting fire to it would be much more practical.
But I think what he means is you can edit your own terrain how you like it, then submit it to the "Genesis Project" for approval, and it will be placed somewhere in the world. From there, who knows what will become of it.

It's not going to be like an internet graffiti board, where one person is trying to draw something, and somebody else keeps scrawling all over it. Building takes a bit of time, and demolition, though it will likely be a little quicker, will also take time, even for big races. So, nobody's going to make the spot you're standing on into an island, unless you're very, very slow.
From talking to Gavan, it seems he plans some pretty bad consequences for wanton destruction of random people's homes, so it's probably going to be less common than you might think.

So, nobody's going to make the spot you're standing on into an island, unless you're very, very slow. So people could always keep terraforming each others maps. That means every time I go somewhere it looks different, and I would probably get lost out in the world. I think "locking" maps might be a good idea. At least the land you're walking on.

Trust me, it would take a lot of effort to substantially terraform an entire map. If, say, all of the members of one of the races dedicated themselves to that, then they could change enough after a while to make you confused. Land terraforming is not going to be like the tractor icon on SimCity. It will take lots of work, and moving dirt around... um, which is work.

Ah, sounds better. So players will not be able use any of the tools similar to the ones shown in the tech video? at least not as powerful. Only when creating maps they plan to submit?
